This is blueberries being bad. Drinking whisky under the bleachers before a high school football game. Dancing on tables and drunk texting ex-boyfriends. The kind you don't want take home to mama ... unless it is with a container of vanilla ice cream. Then you want to take them everywhere.
Bourbon blueberries are fun to have around. They're gooey, sweet, and a little edgy. They go great over greek yogurt, frozen yogurt, or any decadant dessert of your choice. If you're the kind that likes sweet sauces over savory dishes then go right ahead and throw these over seafood, or a lean piece of meat. Serve them at a party because they are super easy to prepare, and you can tell your friends that you spiked the food.
bourbon blueberry sauce
About 4 (depending on what you use it for)
2 cups of organic blueberries, rinsed (frozen blueberries will work as well, just thaw before using)
1 cup of bourbon
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- Place all of the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Cook the blueberries until the bourbon reduces by about 2/3. The blueberries will become soft and the sauce should start to thicken slightly.
- Serve warm over whatever you chose. Or, if you're not using immediately, place them in an air tight container in the fridge and warm them up when you are ready to use. They will keep in the refrigerator for around 1 week.
